One out of four AGAIN!

Tonight, I was cheering for two teams and in two games I really didn't care who won because I disliked both teams. Texas-Stanford was totally a wash, and Texas won. I also don't care for Memphis or Michigan State, and Memphis proved their worth. I was thrilled that Davidson beat Wisconsin, but Villanova annoyed me by losing to Kansas.

So now Davidson probably has to face Goliath's daughter?!

David Padgett is pretty.

See above. I deleted my longer post on it, but needless to say, I've currently got a self-induced, totally fun, huge whopping crush on him. And whenever I've seen him, he's not played too well.

The first time I remember seeing him play was in 2006 on ESPN, when my mother and I both drooled over him. The last time I saw Louisville play before Thursday was the whiteout game at Freedom Hall when Rick Pitino wore a white suit for the first half and a black suit for the second half.

I don't put much stock in the ability of anyone to beat North Carolina, even though I'm evidently not the only person who's currently in love with Mr. Padgett. The press is obsessed with him.

But hey, the boy is hot. And tall. He's also 23, slightly out of my age range. I think my age limit should be 24. Since he's a fifth-year senior, having transferred from Kansas after his freshman year, here ends my ability to squeal over college basketball players.

Edited to add: by the "half your age plus seven" rule, he's still in my age range. And he's not exactly busy right now!

It's 4:30 in the morning.

If the Red Sox were playing another 6 am game today, I'd probably be awake for it.

One out of four IS bad!

It's the first night of the NCAA men's basketball Sweet 16 tonight, and only one of the four teams I was cheering for actually won. I wanted North Carolina and UCLA to lose, because after my UConn Huskies get kicked out, I always cheer against the number one seeds, and I wanted West Virginia to win, to bring pride to the Big East.

Unfortunately, North Carolina trounced Washington State in the East Region, UCLA beat Western Kentucky, and Xavier squeaked past West Virginia in overtime, both in the West Region.

Thankfully, one team I "liked" won tonight, and Louisville did represent the Big East well. (It's so weird to me to type that Louisville is representing the Big East. They're Conference USA and Metro Conference to me.) I was going to say that I was only cheering for Louisville because of their conference, but there are actually many reasons I can think of to cheer for Louisville against Tennessee:
1) As a UConn fan, I should hate both Tennessee basketball teams.
2) Bruce Pearl, with his painted chest and feeling up Erin Andrews, is creepy.
3) I could swear I have (safe-for-work) pictures of David Padgett on my old cell phone, but I'd have to charge it to go find them. He's pretty. More on this in another post.

Tomorrow (actually today), the matchups are 1-seed Memphis vs. 5-seed Michigan State and 3-seed Stanford vs. 2-seed Texas in the South Region, and 1-seed Kansas vs. 12-seed Villanova and 3-seed Wisconsin vs. 10-seed Davidson in the Midwest Region.

And to another tournament oddity that angers me: that some teams get to play within two hours' driving distance of their campuses. North Carolina should not be able to play the entire regional in their home state, and even the UConn women shouldn't be playing in Bridgeport. It seems that North Carolina plays in North Carolina every single cotton-picking year, no pun intended, and it's not fair! (And besides, Louisville are at a distinct disadvantage in their next game.)

Opening Post

I've decided I need a sports blog. This one will also have comments available.

Obviously, the title of the blog asks the famous soccer question, from a Boston perspective.

These are a few of my favorite teams: UConn men's and women's basketball, Boston Red Sox, New England Revolution, Chelsea Football Club, Schalke 04 and Real Madrid in a lesser capacity, England, France and Germany men's national teams, the dearly departed Hartford Whalers...

My favorite athletes are Ray Allen, David Ortiz, Tim Wakefield, Michael Ballack, J.J. Redick, Paolo Maldini, Owen Hargreaves, Khalil Greene, and I can't think of anyone else I'd admit to liking at the moment.

I also like raindrops on roses, warm woolen mittens, crisp apple strudels, Toll House cookies, rubber ducks, music, and bubble wrap.

In case it is not obvious from this post, I have two X-chromosomes.
